2009-2010 Accomplishments

Accomplishments of the
Student Government Association
2009-2010

• We gave $50,000 to Beau Soleil.
• We've ordered 16,000 UL water bottles. Used for promotional purposes and for new student orientation.
• We joined ASGA (American Student Government Association), a national organization for SG's/SGA's.
o Represented SGA at the District Conference in Dallas.
o Represented SGA at the National Conference in DC.
 SGA President Dustin Domangue and Chief Justice Kassidy Broussard were chosen to lead a round table discussion on Judicial Branches.
• Represented the University at COSGA at Texas A&M University.
• Successfully lobbied against the State sponsored gun bill that would have allowed guns onto college campuses.
• Hosted the biggest (and most successful) SGA retreat in our history.
• Revamped the SGA budgets. We increased the amount of funding available to organizations from colleges.
• We increased the amount of SGA scholarships that were available to students to over 40.
• Remodeled the SGA office to be more professional and student friendly.
• Launched a new website and a NEW RedDot Website.
• Increased the amount of RedDot participants.
• Made college specific goals.
o Arts: Current Proposal: To give $3,000 to the Art shop to repair broken tools.
o Arts: Purchased an ice machine to ice dancer’s joints and broken bones.
o Business: Purchased new furniture for F.G. Mouton
o Education: Sponsored over $900 for the College banquet.
o Nursing: Sponsored over $1,500 for the nursing class portrait.
o Science: Currently in plans to have Montgomery Chemistry building interior repainted.
o Liberal Arts: Currently working on Griffin wireless internet and furniture.
o Graduate School: Ordered new furniture for the Graduate school lounge.
• Green Movement = Created the “Geaux R.E.D.” campaign (Recycle Everything Daily).
• Quad Renovations = Paid for the plans for quad redesigned.
o Took responsibility for the Scooter raffle to help pay for the project.
• Currently proposing Dental Care for all students.
• SGA President Dustin Domangue also held the state position “Student Chair of Research & Development” for the Board of Regent’s Council of Student Body Presidents.
• Successfully lobbied against the proposed drop fee, twice. (Yes, I understand that faculty and administration want this…but students were never given fair warning when scheduling classes. And thus that was not taken into consideration by the students, who we represent.)
• Donated $10,000 to help pay for the Haitian student tuitions.

Welcome to the SGA Blog!

Greetings Ragin' Cajuns!

Thank you for taking the time to visit our blog. This is one of our first attempt at bringing the organization, SGA, to the students. Other things we have done recently is having the bulletin boards updated in a timely manner with our contact information for you to easily contact us regarding issues or concerns that you may deem important.
